The Department of Microbiology at Vijaya College,Jayanagar is a pioneer in starting this course in the university and has continuously updated with the new developments to harness the enormous potential and scope of Microbiology as a ‘new generation science’. The department conducts a wide range of career oriented activities like seminars, symposia, competitions and workshops to help foster skills like analytical reasoning, planning, decision making, lab research, bettered communication and presentation. Microbiology is a burgeoning field with plenty of opportunities for career building and successful advancement. Since microorganisms are invisible to the eye, their study is a ‘key Science of life’.Their knowledge explores the vast economic benefits to human life and deals with various aspects like pollution control, alleviation of diseases,improve quality of life, promotion of public health and emerging challenges of new infectious diseases and in finding life saving therapies and vaccines.

Vijaya College, Jayanagar, erstwhile BHS First Grade College took its genesis in July 1989 under the BHS Managing Committee's(now BHS Higher Education Society) holistic awning. What ideated in 1988 germinated and took form in 1989 as BHS First Grade College.
The college motto 'Excellence in education' shines bright with the students' achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. With a humble inception, brick by brick the institution set out to add value to education and purpose to the courses offered.
