About College

Vijaya College, Jayanagar, erstwhile BHS First Grade College took its genesis in July 1989 under the BHS Managing Committee's(now BHS Higher Education Society) holistic awning. What ideated in 1988 germinated and took form in 1989 as BHS First Grade College.

It was a modest beginning with two PU sections (PCMB, PCMCs and PCME) comprising of 117 students and two Degree sections (one each in Science and Commerce) with just 34 students. Presently the student strength is 2000+ (Degree Students). The management decided to make this college exclusively for undergraduate courses and withdrew the Pre University courses in 2004.It was in the same year that the college was renamed as Vijaya College, Jayanagar.

The college motto 'Excellence in education' shines bright with the students' achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. With a humble inception, brick by brick the institution set out to add value to education and purpose to the courses offered. The college offers about 12 courses in the three faculties- Humanities, Commerce and Management and Science. Given the present day demands and to make education more relevant and practical the college introduced the BBM and BCA course. A Vocational course in BA with the subjects English Literature, Journalism and Communicative English was offered in 2003-2004 to keep pace with the growing trend and opportunities in the market. 2013-14 saw the introduction of Kannada Literature, Journalism and Sociology.

With emphasis on holistic development, a host of activities are conducted in our college. 'Anjali' the cultural and literary forum has been a platform for students to flaunt their talent in an array of activities. 'Scientia' a science and humanities forum gives a boost to the analytical skills and to inculcate a scientific temper in the young minds.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) had its beginning in1992-93 with the objective of enabling the students to be responsible towards the society. The college has a fullfledged NCC wing .Cadets have been regularly representing Karnataka in the prestigious Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. The college has been a springboard for budding sports stars. An Inter Collegiate cricket tournament is hosted by the college every year which has an enthusiastic participation from colleges across Bangalore.

In January 2004 the Career Guidance and Placement Cell was set up to facilitate students' entry into their chosen fields, an exercise which has been rewarding for the students and the college. Campus Recruitment Training given to students has yielded fruitful results. Reputed organizations and companies have been recruiting our students through the Placement cell.

With an earnest effort towards upholding literature and the contributions of Kannada writers, National Seminars are held every year. Seminars are being hosted for the last 14 years. These seminars provide an opportunity for the students and teachers from in and around Bangalore to interact and listen to a host of scholars.

While there are many ways to measure achievements and success, Vijaya College measures it with the success stories written by its students in various fields. Success is only the journey not the destination.
